Wayland Summer Strings is returning for its third summer led by Whitney Tandon, Wayland Strings Director for Grades 4-8. The one-week program will culminate in a concert for family and friends. Dates are July 25 – 29, 2016, and hours are 12:30-3:30 pm. The location is Wayland High School.
The program is for students who are entering Grades 6-9. Entering fifth graders should have at least two years of private professional lessons, and families should email Ms. Tandon to see if the repertoire will be appropriate for the student.
Summer Strings will be a week of “chamber music and fun,” according to Ms. Tandon. Daily activities will include guided chamber ensemble rehearsals, musical games and activities, and preparation of a large ensemble piece.
Ms. Tandon’s goal is for the children to “have a great time making music together.” There will be small group activity as well as large ensembles in preparation for the Friday concert.
“Summer Strings was a big success last year — the 20 students who participated were motivated, hardworking, and put together a fantastic performance,” she recalled recently. “Plus, we had lots of fun with our Orchestra Olympics and other games and activities throughout the week. Last year I had many returning students. It’s so exciting for me to watch the students work together. They grow and develop as musicians over the week as they prepare repertoire for performance!”
Cost is $150 per student with enrollment limited to 20. Families should register by April 1 to help Ms. Tandon with planning but withhold payment until June 10. Instructions are on the registration form. Questions may be directed to Ms. Tandon at Whitney_Tandon@wayland.k12.ma.us.
The registration form is available online here.
