Votes for Women: Massachusetts Leaders in the Woman Suffrage Movement. Wednesday, April 24 at 7pm at the Wayland Library, Raytheon Room. Barbara Berenson, author of Massachusetts in the Woman Suffrage Movement: Revolutionary Reformers, tells the story of the national suffrage movement and gives this state’s suffragists the attention they deserve. Long before the Civil War, Lucy Stone and other abolitionists launched the organized women’s movement. After the war, state activists founded the Boston-based American Woman Suffrage Association to lead campaigns across the country. Their work laid the foundation for the next generation of suffragists to triumph over tradition.
Barbara Berenson is the author of Massachusetts in the Woman Suffrage Movement: Revolutionary Reformers (2018), Boston in the Civil War: Hub of the Second Revolution (2014), and Walking Tours of Civil War Boston: Hub of Abolitionism (2011, 2d ed. 2014). She is the co-editor of Breaking Barriers: The Unfinished Story of Women Lawyers and Judges in Massachusetts (2012). Barbara earned her undergraduate degree from Harvard College and her law degree from Harvard Law School. She works as a Senior Attorney at the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. She is on the boards of Boston By Foot and the Royall House & Slave Quarters. This event is sponsored by the Harvard Club in Concord. All are welcome.

Another date to add to your calendar is Candidates Night, Wednesday, April 10. This will be the 69th year that the League of Women Voters of Wayland has provided a platform for residents to learn about the candidates for the various town offices. This meeting will be held in the Large Hearing Room with refreshments at 7:15pm and the forum starting at 7:30pm. Please join us for this informative presentation and discussion.

Wayland Youth Lacrosse is proud to offer the boys and girls in Wayland another season of playing lacrosse, one of the fastest-growing, most popular sports in Massachusetts.  Our Town and Select Teams are comprised of student-athletes who have a wide-range of lacrosse skills, including new players who are just beginning their lacrosse game and skilled players who have been shooting on the net for years.  All teams and levels are committed to developing the whole player and focus on teamwork as well as character and skill development.  Select Teams offer players an additional competitive opportunity to take their lacrosse skills to the next level. The season runs from the end of March through early June with our Laxapalooza W-Day in the middle of May.  For registration information, as well as practice and game times, visit www.waylandlacrosse.com.  Late registration is open through March 15.
