Dignity Matters:
Mission: Dignity Matters is a non-profit organization that collects, purchases and supplies feminine hygiene products, bras and underwear to women and girls who are homeless or disadvantaged, in order to help them stay healthy, regain self-confidence, and live with basic dignity.
* Town of Wayland officially closes settlement with Twenty Wayland, LLC. The Select Board announces that the Town of Wayland has officially finalized all necessary steps related to the settlement with Twenty Wayland LLC, regarding the development agreement dating to 2006 for the Wayland Town Center mixed-use plaza.
* Thieves targeting Wayland Toyota Prius owners. Wayland police say thieves are targeting one of the most popular hybrid vehicles over an expensive and very important car part. Police have recently heard several reports about catalytic converters being stolen from Toyota Prius cars in Wayland, the department said Monday.
* Michael L. Tichnor Elected American Jewish Committee President. Michael L. Tichnor has been elected president of the American Jewish Committee (AJC), the leading global Jewish advocacy organization. “I am honored and humbled to take on this most meaningful role at AJC, an organization which exemplifies courage, strength, diplomacy and action,” said Tichnor.
Library seeking volunteer coding teachers for Girls Who Code. The Wayland Library Girls Who Code Club is looking for volunteer facilitators for the 2022-2023 academic year. Affiliated with the national Girls Who Code organization (girlswhocode.com) and its mission of closing the gender gap in technology, the Wayland club brings together girls for hands-on learning about code and technology. The Wayland library plans to have two clubs: one for girls in grades 3-5 and one for girls in grades 6 and up. Enthusiasm for working with the girls is required; technical skill is helpful but not necessary, especially if you are willing to learn along with them. Wayland Community Fund serving Wayland residents temporarily in need of financial assistance. Please call us if you need help!
The Wayland Community Fund (WCF) provides short-term emergency financial assistance to Wayland residents who have lived in Wayland for at least one year. WCF provides funding for basic needs such as utilities, rent, food, medical bills, and other living expenses. Please call us if you need help with your bills, 508-358-3624 or go to the town website for an application.
Join the MRC! New Medical Reserve Corps Volunteers are always needed! We have a great group of volunteers, however, we would love to recruit new members. If you are interested in helping out your community and would like to volunteer please contact the Health Department at Health@wayland.ma.us.

* Wayland History Collection in Focus. We are busy conserving, digitizing and cataloging Wayland historical documents rarely seen before by the public, including maps and plans. Reference staff can help you find information on a specific topic, whether it is anti-slavery, Lake Cochituate, the many articles in our files related to Wayland history, or anything else. To reach the library’s local history librarian, please contact M.J. Wright or by calling the library. Appointments are necessary to see primary resources and historical maps.
* Where Is Everybody? In our, the librarians’, ceaseless quest to make the library user experience more congenial to you, the library user, the Biography section and 900s have swapped places. The former is now upstairs in the East Mezzanine, and the latter on the main floor, which—after years of division–finally unites the entire non-fiction collection. This in fact may not mean much to you, but it certainly makes us feel better.

* Summer Reading Kickoff: Henry the Juggler. Henry the Juggler (AKA Henry Lappen) is wanted! He is wanted by audiences everywhere for his zany attempts to defy the laws of gravity. He juggles any number of balls, clubs, rings, members of the audience… He balances strange items on the tip of his nose. Everything is accomplished wordlessly as Henry uses body language (and road signs!) to express himself. Caution: Henry is known to use innocent bystanders in his act. Summer Reading. Our 2022 Summer Reading Program Camp iRead: Read Beyond the Beaten Path begins on June 13, with an outdoor kick off performance on June 16 by Henry the Juggler. Other programming highlights include Circus Minimus, making a Rube Goldberg machine, live caterpillars from the Caterpillar Lab, and the Toe Jam Puppet Band. Kids in grades preK through grade 5 will keep track of their reading online or on paper logs and will earn badges for time reading and for attending programs. Every child who registers can pick up a goody bag at the library. Participants will also earn raffle tickets for prizes! Our Teen Reading Program also starts on June 13. Teens can participate in camp-themed programs at the library and read to earn gift packs and gift card prizes. * Juneteenth Celebration! Become Your Dreams: History of Hip Hop Dance, Featuring the dancers of Illstyle & Pease, this performance celebrates the art and movement of hip hop and includes a funky blend of locking, breaking, popping, tap and house dancing, vocal percussions, D.J.ing , and modern and traditional dance forms. This performance will take place in the library parking lot so please bring a lawn chair and plan your parking accordingly. All ages welcome! Saturday, June 18 at 3 p.m.

Summer Concert: The Daddios! On Thursday, June 23, 7-8pm, the 11th annual outdoor Community Concert Series kicks off with The Daddios, a hugely popular Wayland-based band. Join us on the lawn behind Town Building for the fun. Bring a chair, a picnic and a friend! The weekly concert series runs through July 21. Presented for all ages by the Council on Aging, with thanks to sponsors including The Village Bank, Middlesex Savings Bank, Avenu at Natick & National Development, and Salmon Health & Retirement: Whitney Place, Natick. Monday Morning Walking Club. Mondays at 9:30am, the COA Walking Club meets at Cochituate Rail Trail in Natick. Join our friendly Walking Club to walk with Wayland seniors for up to an hour. Beginning June 6, 2022, the Walking Club is moving to the Cochituate Rail Trail in Natick which offers lots of shade and benches to rest on along the way. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a water bottle. Will not meet in inclement weather.
Trivia Time! Thursday, June 23, 2 p.m., in the Council on Aging. Trivia Time! You know more facts than you think, and Trivia Time is when you can use them! We welcome back our Trivia Master, Don Ward, for some fun fact-based, general knowledge trivia challenges. And don’t worry, it’s multiple-choice and non-competitive. What is the only vegetable that contains naturally occurring Vitamin D? What was Maine’s largest cash crop in 2020? Join us to guess and to learn the answers to these and other fascinating questions. Reflecting on Reflux, Wednesday, June 22, 1:30 p.m. in the COA and on Zoom: Dietician and nutritionist Traci Robidoux presents a healthy eating plan for reflux. Troubled by Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)? Diet plays a major role in controlling reflux symptoms and is often the first line of therapy for GERD. Knowing what and when to eat can go a long way in preventing bothersome GERD flare-ups. Join us to learn more. Traci Robidoux is a licensed dietician/nutritionist at BayPath Elder Services, Inc. Free Yoga Class, Tuesday, June 21, 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. in the Town Building Large Hearing Room. Fitness instructor Joe Scianna will offer a free yoga strengthening demo class for the Council on Aging. What is yoga strengthening? A combination of standing and floor postures to stretch and strengthen the body. The practice brings vital balance and creates physical, mental and spiritual harmony. Geared toward all levels. Bring a yoga mat and a bottle of water. Participate, or just observe, based on your tolerances. With sufficient interest, the COA will plan summer classes.

Coming this Fall: Wayland Junior Broadway.Wayland Junior Broadway is an opportunity for 5th graders at the three elementary schools to participate in an afterschool Musical. The Production Team (Directors, Choreographers, Music Directors, Technicians, etc.) would be older high school students already involved in the Wayland High School Theater Ensemble (WHSTE). The Advisor for Wayland Junior Broadway will be Aidan O’Hara, the Drama Teacher and Director at Wayland High School.
The title for this inaugural year is still TBD, but it will be a recognizable and super fun musical that has a running time of about an hour.
Wayland Junior Broadway will run from mid-September 2022, thru January 2023. Rehearsals (and performances) will be at Wayland High School on Wednesdays, 2-4:15 or 4:30pm (with more rehearsals the weeks during January). Performances will be Friday, January 20, 2023 at 7pm, and Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 5pm.
Wayland Junior Broadway will be a collaborative effort between WHSTE and WSCP (Wayland Schools Community Programs.)

Vokes Players announce auditions for fall production. Auditions for the Vokes Players’ fall production: A mystery directed by Chris Cardoni. Their contract prohibits the Vokes from announcing the actual title until September 1. Auditions to be held Sunday and Monday, July 24 and 25, 7pm at Beatrice Herford’s Vokes Theatre (Callbacks if needed: Wednesday July 27) Rehearsals will start August 7 and performances will run from October 28 through November 12 (or possibly a week later). * Dinty Child Concert, Thursday, June 23rd, doors at 7:30. https://artswayland.com/. On Thursday, June 23rd at 8 pm (doors at 7:30) The American Roots Music Series (ARMS) continues to bring the finest in local and regional Americana/Roots musical talent with solo artist, Dinty Child. Dinty Child is a longtime member of the Boston roots/folk scene. A fearless multi-instrumentalist, he can most often be seen with the band Session Americana, as well as the Chandler Travis Philharmonic, the unapologetically loud and grimy Catbirds, as sensitive sideman to any number of singer/songwriters, including Rose Cousins and Kris Delmhorst, and even fronting the twenty piece party band, the Funky White Honkies. It is rare to be able to enjoy hearing Dinty as a solo performer, when his song writing, performing ability, and friendly nature truly shine. More on Dinty can be found at Dintychild.com. This concert is generously funded by The Lauren Dunne Astley Memorial Fund. The $10 cover at the door will directly benefit The W Gallery and its tireless efforts to bring arts to the community.
* Trio Now Jazz Concert, Sunday, June 19 at 2pm. https://artswayland.com/pages/trio-now. The W Gallery is proud to present TRIO NOW. After being the rhythm section for many quartets and quintets over the years in the Boston and New England area, pianist Steve Hunt, bassist Bruce Gertz and drummer Jack Diefendorf broke out on their own to form the jazz group ‘TRIO NOW’. The trio’s exceptional and exciting interplay and musical conversations during theirThis concert is part of the monthly jazz series at the W and is led by Berklee College of Music Professor and Jazz Chair of the W Gallery, Neil Olmstead. Please stay after the concert for a reception honoring the artists featured in our May Exhibit. The reception will take place from 3 pm to 4 pm with delicious refreshments and is free to all! improvisations have thrilled and delighted audiences who love the sound and concept of the jazz piano trio.
* MXLR Open Mic, June 15th, doors open at 7:30pm. https://artswayland.com/pages/music-exchange-listening-room-open-mic. Grab a ten minute/2 song slot by signing in on the chalkboard at the door. We’ve got a full PA, however we ask that singers bring their own microphones if possible. The gallery also holds a decently tuned grand piano, and our stage is large enough to hold a full band. Light percussion is welcome! The gallery has very comfortable seating, room for safe distancing if desired, great acoustics, and a wonderfully respectful listening audience!

Discovery Museum celebrates its 40th Anniversary,
Special programs and events including free outdoor movie nights, accessible arts performances, a free-admission day, a 21+ party, and more will be held June through October. Most events require advance registration, unless noted otherwise.

Office Hours with Senator Rausch: Senator Rausch has shifted her monthly in-person office hours to remote, virtual office hours held on Fridays. Conversations with the Senator and her staff will take place via phone call or video conference. During these virtual office hours, residents from any part of the Norfolk, Bristol and Middlesex District are welcome to share their questions and opinions on state issues with Senator Rausch and her staff.
