Knowing what is happening real time at Town Meeting has never been more simple.
As simple as sending a text message, Wayland residents now have an easy way to follow along with Town Meeting in case there is a specific issue they are interested in or if they just want to know how Town Meeting is going. By texting the word Wayland to 33733 residents can monitor progress of all the Articles being presented at Town Meeting by receiving Text Messages. At a minimum, for each article, we will let you know when debate begins, ends and final results.
Given the ability to broadcast Town Meeting to people’s homes and to communicate with voters in real time via the Internet we achieve equal representation by engaging all town voters, first, to educate them on the issues and, second, to cast their votes for Town Meeting articles. Texting Notification is a good first step, because there is no reason in this day and age why people who cannot be present physically at the Wayland High School gymnasium for the whole meeting are excluded from participating in our most democratic process.
