Area artist Kim Poler of Beehive Art will once again bring artistic opportunities to Kindergarten through Grade 3 students in Wayland’s elementary schools this year. BEEHIVE ART is a local company specializing in creatively charged visual art experiences for children. It’s about inspiring with the sheer joy of the creative process and introducing exciting techniques and mediums, according to Ms. Poler, who has taught elementary art in public and private schools for nearly 25 years. Programs are designed to inspire young minds. The objective is to expose children to the sheer joy of creative and artistic expression without limits or boundaries and to engage, develop, and enhance their imaginations, outside-the-box reasoning and problem solving, self identity and self worth.
BEEHIVE ART was created and is run by Ms. Poler, who was a sculpture major at Boston University’s School of Fine Art.
One hour after-school workshops, Mixed Media, are held right after school on Wednesdays at Loker School (1:50 pm) and at 3 pm Thursdays at Claypit Hill School. Dates are October 8 through December 3 at Loker School and October 9 through December 4 at Claypit Hill. Children explore and experiment with watercolors, oil pastels, tempera paints, photography, print and pattern collages, sewing, textiles, and 3-D sculptures. They also make books and mobiles, and it all takes place in a relaxing, after-school environment.
Happy Hollow students will enjoy a one-day workshop to be followed by a full round of courses starting in January. The “Gifts to Give” workshop at Happy Hollow will mark the debut of this one-day event in Wayland’s schools. Ms. Poler describes it as a “unique annual holiday workshop, lasting 90 minutes and being filled to the brim with festive treasures and fun gifts.” It is a session in which young artists can experiment with cutting, collage, paint, and glitter, all while laughing, singing and creating. They can make gifts, treasures, wrapping paper, or gift tags. The date is Thursday, December 11, from 3 to 4:30 pm, and the fee is $35.
