News and Updates from the Wayland Library, October 31, 2014

HOLIDAY HOURS. The library will be closed on Veteran’s Day, Tuesday, November 11. Over Thanksgiving the library will close at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26. We will be closed all day Thursday, November 26, and Friday, November 28.

PAJAMA STORYTIME. On Wednesday, October 29, from 6:30-7:15 p.m. Beverly Mobilia, coordinator of Wayland’s Community Partnerships for Children and Families, will lead a Pajama Storytime for ages 3 and up. Children are invited to come in pajamas or in their Halloween costumes.

BOOK BUDDIES. Book Buddies is for kids in grades K-2 with a parent/caregiver. This month’s book is “Pinch and Dash Make Soup” by Michael Daley. Read the book with your child and then come discuss the story and make soup! Wednesday, November 19, at 3 p.m. Call 508-358-2308 for more information and to register. All are welcome. Co-run with the WCPA.

bridgetoterebithiaPARENT/CHILD BOOK GROUP. This month on Wednesday, November 12, at 7 p.m. we will be discussing “The Bridge to Terabithia” by Katherine Paterson. For children in grades 4 and 5 with a parent.

CRAFTERS CLUB. Crafters Club is for older kids, ages 7 and up. This month kids will marbleize paper with librarian Elise Katz on Wednesday, November 12, 4-5:30 p.m.

READ TO LILY!. Call the Children’s Room at 508-358-2308 to sign up to read to our visiting Labradoodle dog, Lily, on Saturday, November 8, 1-2 p.m.

LEGO CLUB Our next meeting will be Wednesday, November 5, from 3-4 p.m. Children ages 5 and up will make fabulous creations out of legos. This month’s theme is airports and flying machines.

THE HUMAN RACE–AND THE TECHNOLOGY RACE. Has technology advanced beyond our ability to control it? On Tuesday, November 4, at 7:30 p.m., George Gantz will lead a discussion about how technology is affecting our lives and our brains. We will start by considering our own experiences with digital technologies and recent research on the human-digital interface. Gantz is a retired business executive with a life-long passion for mathematics, science, philosophy and theology. He now directs the ISAS Forum on Integrating Science and Spirituality and blogs on related topics at swedenborgcenterconcord.org.

NEEDLEWORK/HANDWORK GROUP. Our Needlework/Handwork group, facilitated by Ann Moses, meets on the first Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m.–12 noon in the Raytheon Room. Next meetings are on the following Wednesdays: November 5 and December 3.

SING-ALONG WITH JEANNIE MACK This year Jeannie will be coming to the library each month to perform all kinds of fun, bounce-around, sing-along songs geared for young children. Audience participation encouraged! For babies, toddlers, and preschoolers with caregiver. The next monthly Sing-Along will be Thursday, November 6, at 10:30 a.m.

LEGO CLUB Kids, come to the library on Wednesday, November 5, from 3-4 p.m. to make fabulous creations out of Legos. For children ages 5 and up.

ACUPUNCTURE FOR YOUR PETS . Dr. Flavia Zorgniotti will describe veterinary acupuncture for veterinary: what it is, the similarities and differences from human acupuncture, and how it is used. She will also discuss some of the more common ailments it can treat and answer audience questions. Dr. Zorgniotti is a veterinarian at the Phoenix Veterinary Hospital of Wayland. She is certified in Veterinary Acupuncture and Veterinary Food Therapy. Tuesday, November 18, 7 p.m.

SUDBURY VALLEY NATURE PHOTOGRAPHERS. This year’s annual fall exhibit in the Raytheon Room features work by sixteen local photographers and represents a wide variety of nature subject matter. Exhibitors come from throughout MetroWest. A “Meet the Artists” reception for the public will be held on Sunday, November 9, from 2:30-4:30 p.m. It will include several brief “gallery talks” by some of the exhibiting photographers, beginning at 3:30.

DROBNIS PHOTOGRAPHY. We welcome back Murray and Gertrude Drobnis for their nineteenth year exhibiting their photography in the library’s foyer.
