Growing up in Wayland, Dr. Rick Sacra would hear stories from missionaries at the Trinitarian Congregational Church about their work abroad. Those stories inspired Sacra, now 51, to become a family physician and serve as a medical missionary in Liberia for nearly 20 years. But his service came with a price. After a long day of work on Aug. 29, Sacra started feeling feverish and had a temperature of 100.8 degrees. The fever stayed through the weekend, and three days later, Sacra was diagnosed with Ebola, a deadly infection that has spread through much of West Africa this year and killed thousands.
