3D INTEREST GROUP: CALLING ALL MAKERS!. Are you a teen or adult interested in 3D design or 3D printing? The library staff wonders if there is enough interest in this subject in town to form an interest group that could meet at the library to figure out how our town could participate in the Maker Movement culture. “BEING A BIOTECH ENTREPRENEUR: If You Can’t Take the Heat…” On Tuesday, January 6, at 7:30 p.m. Wayland resident Dr. Barbara S. Fox will make a presentation about being a biotech entrepreneur. Dr. Fox is the founder and CEO of Avaxia Biologics, a Lexington biotech company developing antibody therapeutics for ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. Yet for the first five years, the company lived at a kitchen table in Cochituate! Hear the trials and tribulations of starting up a biotech company and the personal highs and lows of growing a company from scratch. Fox has a Ph.D. from MIT and 30 years of experience in academic research and biotechnology. She is a frequent speaker on entrepreneurship and particularly enjoys mentoring aspiring young entrepreneurs.
Experience Wight Richardson. Sunday January 11, 2015, 2:15 PM – 3:30 PM Jane Sciacca will present: A Local Woman’s Voice from the 18TH century: The Revolutionary Writings of Experience Wight Richardson. We hear about men marching off to war in the 18th century to secure American independence, making momentous decisions at Town Meetings, and serving in town government. A few even attended college and entered the professions. But what about the women who made up at least half the population? What were their thoughts and actions? Fortunately, we can gain some insight through the diary of Experience Wight Richardson, who lived in colonial Sudbury (today Wayland and Sudbury) during the turbulent years that led up to the American Revolution
Sing-along with Jeannie Mack. Jeannie Mack will perform all kinds of fun, bounce-around, sing-along songs geared for young children in the Raytheon Room on Thursday, January 8, from 10:30-11:15 a.m. For babies, toddlers, and preschoolers with a caregiver.
Read to Corbyn the Samoyed. Children are invited to read to Corbyn, a beautiful Samoyed on Saturday, January 10, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Call 508-358-2308 to sign up for a 15 minute slot. Corbyn and her owner Helen are certified through Pets and People Foundation to give read-to-a-dog programs.
Mother Goose Time. Thursdays Jan. 15, 22, and 29 at 10:30 a.m. For babies and toddlers, this program is filled with songs, rhymes, and movement.
Zumba Jr. Julia Walderzak will lead rhythm and dance programs for children ages 2.5 to 4 years old. Tues. Jan 27 at 10:30 a.m.
BOOK BUDDIES. Book Buddies is a parent/child book group for children in grades K-3 with a parent/caregiver. This month’s book is “A Brand New Day with Mouse & Mole” by Wong Herbert Yee, and we will be meeting on Thursday, January 22, 3-3:30 p.m. We will discuss the book and do an activity. All are welcome. Youth Services librarian Pam McCuen will facilitate this program, which is co-run by the WCPA. Please read the books with your child before you come.

Joy of Getting It Done with Linda King. Linda King, a trained and certified Life Coach and ADHD Coach, will present “The Joy of Getting It Done” at the library on Tuesday, January 13, at 7:30 p.m. Many of King’s clients struggle with procrastination, daunting projects, and the lack of ability to create workable routines in their lives. King tries to help them find many simple ways to make change easier. She hopes that attendees leave her talks feeling hopeful and empowered!
GROW YOUR OWN WITH RENEE. In the deep mid-winter, who is thinking about gardening? Renee Bolivar, owner of “Gardens by Renee” is! Renee will be at the library on Saturday afternoon , January 17, 2-4 p.m. to talk about how to grow, harvest, and eat from your own backyard. Renee is a passionate master gardener who has been part of the slow food movement her entire life. “Gardens by Renee” is a local and organic business created to get people growing, one seed at a time.
STUDY HOURS FOR WHS STUDENTS. During Wayland High School finals week, the library will be open late until 11 p.m. for high school students who want to study for finals on January 20, 21, and 22. We will serve pizza at 5:30 p.m. on those evenings to teens who are here during the dinner hour and will also provide some snacks throughout the evening.
Parent/Child Book Group. This book group, led by Youth Services Librarian Pam McCuen, is for children in 4th and 5th grade, accompanied by a parent. Each month we will discuss a different book. This month on Wednesday, January 14, from 7-8 p.m. we will talk about “Gilda Joyce: Psychic Investigator” by Jennifer Allison. The group will decide together what next month’s book will be.
