The Senior Class Members of the Wayland High School Theater Ensemble Present The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee on February 7th at 1pm and 7:30pm. Music and lyrics by William Finn. Book by Rachel Shenkin. Conceived by Rebecca Feldman. Additional material by Jay Reiss.
Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee will be presented by the Senior Class members of the Wayland High School Theater Ensemble (WHSTE). The audience will be treated to a hilariously funny story highlighted with improvisational moments and enhanced by audience participation.
WHSTE Senior Class members Isabel Pongratz, Jonah Camiel, Megan O’Keeffe, Melissa Smith, Tommy Lewis, Tori Gitten, and Willis Zetter, along with onstage appearances by Wayland High School faculty member Jared Walsh and Natick High School senior Jake Vanet, present the tale of youthful outsiders who vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. As they sing their songs, and demonstrate their unique spelling techniques, these overachievers learn that winning isn’t everything, and that losing does not make you a loser.
The performance at 1pm will be presented as a fundraiser for the Lauren Dunn Astley Memorial Fund. Donations to the Fund will be accepted at the door. Tickets for the 7:30pm will be sold only at the door at a cost of $12 for adults, $8 for students and seniors. Please note that this show is PG-13, not suitable for children under 13.
