At 1259 today the Wayland Public Safety Dispatch center received a 911 call for a person who had fallen through a roof at an Auto Body Shop on Boston Post Road. Within two minutes Wayland Fire Paramedics were on scene and found a 52 year-old male who had fallen off a ladder and through a fabric-covered temporary storage building while cleaning the heavy snow off the roof. The patient has serious injuries and was treated on scene and then transported via Medflight helicopter to the Trauma Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital. At this time the scene has been secured and exact cause of the fall is being investigated.
At 0751 this morning the resident at 67 Loker Street called the Wayland Public Safety Dispatch to report that a barn on her property had collapsed. On arrival of the first engine crew the resident reported that there were no people or animals in the barn that was built in the 1800’s. Further investigation showed that a large section of the roof, approximately 1/3 of the main barn had collapsed due to the weight of the almost 4 feet of snow. Due to the potential collapse of the remaining sections of the barn and bulging outside walls a zone was taped off. The power to the structure has been cut at the street and the Building Commissioner has posted the structure as unsafe.
