A second bus for Wayland students, thanks to The Village Bank

There will soon be a second bus available to transport Wayland student athletes to and from games, practices and events, thanks to a $30,000 donation from The Village Bank and the fundraising efforts of the Wayland Boosters Association.

The latest pre-owned 14-passenger student activity bus is expected to arrive in late January, according to Wayland Boosters President Maureen Tillett. It will complement a similar vehicle donated to the Wayland School Department earlier this year by the Boosters.
The new vehicle will also be available for other student activity purposes when scheduling allows.
“This is our gift to Wayland’s students and their families,� said the Village Bank President and CEO Joseph De Vito. “It offers students convenient transportation, while saving taxpayer dollars now being spent for rental busses and their drivers.�
Selected licensed school personnel will be qualified to take the wheel, according to Heath Rollins, Wayland High School athletic director.
“The athletic department and coaches are excited by the opportunity of soon being able to transport 28 student athletes on the two busses,� said Rollins. “It will give us extra control of transportation scheduling and increased opportunities for off-campus competition, and it will mean cost savings for our teams and other school groups who will have access to the busses.
“On behalf of the Wayland Athletic Department, I want to thank the Wayland Booster Association and The Village Bank for making these busses a reality,� he added.
The Boosters are still seeking funds to cover the additional expenses involved in getting the new vehicle ready for the road. Information is available at waylandboosters.org. The group hopes to present the keys to the new bus to town and school officials in early February.
