Did you know that approximately one elephant is killed every 15 minutes in the African continent, 100 elephants are killed every day, 36,000 elephants are killed every year, 1 rhino is killed every 7-11 hours and extinction looms within a generation?
Did you know that the Boston-Cambridge region has been ranked as one of the top ivory sales markets in the U.S. and a 2015 investigation found Craigslist’s Boston site to have the fourth-largest number of ivory or related wildlife products listed for sale, among major U.S. cities?
Massachusetts legislators are considering a bill that would ban the trade in ivory and rhino horn in Massachusetts, clamping down on the illegal trade by eliminating the cover of a legal market. Legislators heard testimony on the bill in October. NOW IS THE TIME to ask them to move the bill out of the committee and allow it to move forward in the legislative process.

TEAM Boston GMFER – Global March for Elephants and Rhinos – will join Senator Jason Lewis and Activist Tom Lang of Westerhoff Antiques to discuss the elephant and rhino poaching crisis and legislation to ban ivory in the Commonwealth. This program will include a showing of “When Giants Fall” after a live presentation about the ivory ban bill, why it must be passed and what that will do to help national efforts to ban ivory and how Massachusetts citizens can help.
GMFER is a grassroots all-volunteer organization that works on behalf of earth’s last elephants and rhinos. We are a dedicated group of advocates, lobbying strategically to promote local and global awareness about the elephant and rhino crises, calling for governments to take immediate action to end poaching in range nations, and demanding an end to the ivory and rhino horn trade locally, nationally and internationally.
