At both Claypit Hill and Happy Hollow this fall, children have a chance to experience gardening first-hand. Both schools have organic gardens (and Loker School’s is in progress.)
At Claypit Hill, retired Grade 2 teacher Deane Coady returns to lead a five week club for Grades 2 – 5. It starts Wednesday, September 28. There will be lots of digging, exploring, some planting, and harvesting of fruits and veggies.
Happy Hollow’s club is new this year and is being developed and led by Grade Two teacher Deborah Niles. Children in Grades 3 – 5 will be learning about the soil, building mini-terrariums, working in the garden, and enjoying garden-related crafts. The class will be on Fridays, starting September 23 (six weeks).
Deadlines are approaching (Happy Hollow’s is this Friday, Sept. 9) and Claypit’s is September 14. Sign up at www.wayland.k12.ma.us – go to district information, Wayland School Community Programs, Community Education. Contact email at WSCP is: Rosemarie_Teti@wayland.k12.ma.us.
