Wayland welcomes Dana Mastroianni as the new Director of the Wayland Free Public Library

dana-mastroianniWayland welcomes Dana Mastroianni as the new Director of the Wayland Free Public Library. Ms. Mastroianni began her duties at the Library on Monday, October 31st.

Ms. Mastroianni has served as Library Director in both Dracut and Topsfield. She most recently served the Needham Library as Assistant Director. She brings valuable experience in community relations, development and incorporation of burgeoning technologies, staff management, and budgeting.

“Dana understands the Library’s significant role in a town like Wayland, her desire to work collaboratively with staff, and her enthusiasm for a potential building project stood out,” said Board of Library Trustees chair, Aida Gennis. “She is following in the footsteps of strong directors and we are confident she is the right person to lead us into the next phase of our Library’s development.”

Ms. Mastroianni has an interesting and diverse background in library science work and education. She has served as a reference librarian at both Salem State College and Harvard University. At Harvard she was library assistant for Cartographic and Map Services where she was responsible for a retrospective map-cataloging project. In addition to her M.S. degree in Library and Information Science from Simmons College, she has a B.S. of Geological Science with a minor in Biology from Salem State College. A certified teacher, she also studied culinary arts at Johnson & Wales University. She is an enthusiastic sports fan, hiker and mushroom forager and is interested in antiques, cooking and nature photography.

“A vibrant, thriving library is essential for a strong community like Wayland. I love what I do and I can tell that your current staff also ascribes to a similar vantage point about their employment in Wayland,” said Ms. Mastroianni. “I am thrilled about this new adventure.”
