Dignity Matters
Mission:to assist homeless women and girls by providing underwear and feminine hygiene products when they need them most. Through our action we support women in regaining self-confidence and dignity by helping them stay healthy and clean.
The Wayland Children and Parents Association (WCPA) is a community organization that helps bring families with young children together for fun, education and support. We welcome you to participate in the fun by joining the WCPA.

Girl Scouts seek parent volunteers. We are forming Girl Scout troops for all three elementary schools for the fall. We are in need of parent volunteers to help with new Kindergarten Daisy Troops and depending on the school, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-grade troops as well. If you have a rising Kindergartner, 1st, 2nd or 3rd grader interested in Scouting, please join us at an informal, informational wine and cheese reception to meet other interested parents and learn more about what is involved. Help Wayland Residents On Your Schedule. If you’re looking for a vital volunteer role serving your fellow Waylanders that you can do on an “as available” basis, FISH may be just the group for you. Friends in Service Helping – FISH – is a Council on Aging volunteer group that arranges for and provides rides for Wayland residents to medical appointments when they have no other way to get there. FISH volunteers can be drivers or telephone volunteers, working from home to match clients with available drivers. We are looking for more of both! The client is responsible for any tolls or parking expenses. Registration Now Available for Youth in Philanthropy Summer Institute
Do you know a middle or high school student in MetroWest looking for something fun to do this summer while giving back to the community? Registration is now open for the Foundation for MetroWest’s Youth in Philanthropy Summer Institute. The Foundation is offering separate sessions for middle school and high school students this summer from June 25 to June 29. Sessions are held at Framingham State University and run daily, 9am-4pm.
The Youth in Philanthropy Summer Institute is a five-day leadership development experience that offers MetroWest area students a unique way to get involved in their community, make new friends and build skills that will help in school, college and beyond. Registration will be open online through May 25 or until program spots are filled and can be found online here. Students living in MetroWest in grades 6 through 12 are eligible to register. Join the Wayland Student Corps
Student corps is an organization that organizes and hosts community service activities. We welcome all students to join the Wayland High School Student Corps for an opportunity to better our community and earn your president award, a prestigious award that recognizes the service of volunteers. This year alone we have participated in and organized numerous events that were able to positively impact our town; this included the donation of more than 15 full bags of canned goods to Wayland Parmenter Food pantry and the cleaning of the area around WMS and the Wayland railroad site. The Wayland Community Fund serves Wayland residents who need financial assistance. The WCF is a volunteer organization that provides assistance to Wayland residents in financial need, paying utility bills, rent, medical expenses and many other items. It pays bills, it does not provide cash. The organization was originally funded by a bequest from the late Suzanne Leavitt. Contributions from Wayland residents now provide sufficient funding. The WCF is staffed by five volunteers who cover all expenses. As a result, 100% of every contribution goes toward helping people in Wayland. Since its founding 20 years ago the WCF has provided more than $550,000 to Wayland residents in financial need. Line-up Announced for 2018 Wailin’ Wednesdays Concert Series at the Wayland Town Center. Popular family-friendly concert series returns for its fourth year; kicks off Wednesday, June 27, 5:30 p.m. The businesses of the Wayland Town Center along with National Development are proud to once again present Wailin’ Wednesdays, a family-friendly summer concert series which kicks off on Wednesday, June 27 from 5:30-7:30pm at the Wayland Town Center East Green. The events are all free and open to the public. The concert series will be held on the last Wednesday of the month throughout the summer and feature live music, a variety of activities including balloon and air brush tattoo artists, giveaways, and tasty food samplings including hamburgers, hot dogs and veggie sticks courtesy of the Wayland Town Center businesses.
The 2018 lineup includes:
* Wednesday, June 27 – The Missy Maxfield Project. A five-member cover band based in MetroWest featuring music ranging from the 60s to present.
* Wednesday, July 25 – Off Label. “Doc rock” band of mostly medical professionals who blow off steam by rocking out to classic rock and R&B.
* Wednesday, August 29 – Low Priority. Boston based rock cover band playing all of the rock songs you know and songs that make you want to dance.
Join the fun on the grass of the Wayland Town Center East Green just outside of Sperry’s. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and relax and enjoy an evening outside with your friends and family. Don’t miss this music filled summer night of fun!

Too often adults tell students what issues are important and what to care about. It is time to flip the roles and have our high school age residents in Wayland tell the adults what matters to them. The Wayland Democratic Town Committee invites you to share your thoughts at a Listening Session on June 13th at 6pm in the Raytheon Room of the Wayland Public Library. Come tell us what issues are important to you and what we as a community could (or should) be doing. This Listening Session is open to high school students of all ages and all political affiliations. And, yes, there will be free pizza. We hope to see you on June 13th!

MAPC and MWRC seek residents’ opinions on Town Meeting. Your town, along with other MetroWest communities, wants to know what you think about Town Meeting and how Town Meeting might be improved. This survey is confidential, and everyone is encouraged to take it. You are not required to answer everything or anything, but your help is very much appreciated. This 100% grant-funded project is being run in collaboration with Ashland, Framingham, Holliston, Natick, Southborough, Wayland, Wellesley, and Weston through the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) and its local arm, the MetroWest Regional Collaborative (MWRC).

Pros and Cons of Marijuana Legalization in Wayland, June 5
Information Session on June 5, 7-9pm at Wayland Town Building. The Wayland moratorium on recreational marijuana dispensaries will expire on December 31. Important discussions need to take place regarding the legalization of marijuana to help prepare the town of Wayland. What are the implications of the state law that legalized the personal use, cultivation, processing, lab testing, and retail sale of recreational marijuana? The working group has assembled a panel of legal, public safety, agricultural, medical and industry experts to help Wayland explore the issues, and to help inform our thinking about our public policy options. ValeoFC Metrowest announces tryouts for Boys and Girls 2018-2019 teams June 4-8. ValeoFC Metrowest is looking for great players in the following brackets: Boys- ’06-’10 and Girls- ’07-’08. The Application Deadline for Covered Bridge Condominiums Affordable Housing lottery is May 28.
Covered Bridge Condominiums, located at 219-223 Rice Road, offers three affordable one- and two-bedroom condominiums, by lottery, for eligible first-time homebuyers (certain exceptions apply). These homes include one or two bedrooms and 1 or 1 1/2 baths. The purchase price has been set at $169,700 for a one bedroom condos and $186,300 for the two-bedroom condo. The units will be sold by lottery as outlined in the information online here.
It’s tick season. Wayland’s Department of Health issued this notice on tick season and steps to take to prevent tick bites and tick-borne illnesses.
Wayland Community Pool running Pre-Season Sale
The Wayland Community Pool is having their annual pre-season sale. Sign up for a summer pool pass before May 25 to take advantage of sale prices. Participants will view short videos and engage in discussion activities to learn about the nature of bias and reflect on its impact on individuals and society. Spring Botanical Programs with Sudbury Valley Trustees
Sudbury Valley Trustees (SVT) is offering a number of programs and guided walks to highlight the botany of the region. On Friday, June 8, Christa Collins will be leading a new program at Wolbach, Nature Observation through Sketching. This program will help participants hone their plant ID skills by focusing closely on a plant’s distinguishing characteristics.

Join Sudbury Valley New Horizons Music
Love music? You know… it is never too late to go back to your instrument or start a new one! One of our members went back to his violin at age 87 after not playing for 70 years! He is 90 now and still playing! And, we have beginners in their 70s and 80s. Make a new year resolution and come play with us. We have a Concert Band (woodwinds, brass & percussion) and a String Ensemble (violin, viola, cello & bass) and range in age from 30-something to 90. Wednesday, May 30, Breaking Ground: Henry B. Hoover, New England Modern Architect, Wayland Library, 7pm. Interested in Modern architecture? This illustrated talk will introduce two examples in Wayland by New England architect, Henry B. Hoover (1902-1989). These houses will be discussed in the context of Hoover’s career as a Modern residential architect practicing from the late 1930s to the early 1970s. Harvard-trained, Hoover developed his own “brand” of design that was informed by, but different from, the normative, Bauhaus-driven idea of modern architecture. Beginning with his own house of 1937, the first modern house in Lincoln, his practice grew to include clients in neighboring New England Massachusetts towns including Wayland, Weston, Lincoln, Lexington, Belmont, Leominster, Gloucester, and Newton, as well as Jaffrey, New Hampshire, Thomasville, Georgia, and Miami, Florida. Notable about Hoover’s houses is that they exhibit a satisfying synthesis of the exceptional and the livable, always tailored to a particular client and site. The publication Breaking Ground: Henry B. Hoover, New England Modern Architect (University Press of New England, 2015), which examines all aspects of Hoover’s career, will be available for purchase and signing at the talk.
