Dear Lillian & David,
There have been many reports of coyotes all over the area, even during daylight hours, even in fenced in areas, even involving larger dogs.  Please be cautious with your pets.

Wayland News
  • * Uncertainty over where to park school buses next academic year. School officials may have less than a year to figure out where to park the district’s buses, a critical piece to getting hundreds of students to school every day. The district’s 19 buses, plus a few kept in reserve, are currently parked at a property on Rte. 20 that could become the future home of the River’s Edge affordable-housing development. Special Town Meeting this month voted to spend $790,000 to remove asbestos on the site. It must be cleaned up before developer Wood Partners decides to move ahead with the project. If that happens, construction could start within months, and the buses will need a new home in time for the 2018-19 academic year.

  • * New England ADL sends Wayland police chief to Israel for specialized training. Police Chief Patrick Swanick packed his bags for an overseas trip, but it’s not a vacation. On Sunday, Swanick is flying to Israel. He’s one of 15 law enforcement personnel from New England that will spend a week learning cutting-edge security measures from the Israeli National Police and Palestinian police. The Anti-Defamation League’s New England office in Boston organized the trip, and didn’t release the names of other participants, citing security reasons.

How you can help…

You can access the announcements below on our website:

Red Cross Blood Drive, December 11 at Carriage House at Lee’s Farm. Please help us celebrate the season of giving on Tuesday December 11th to donate blood for the American Red Cross. Donors are encouraged to preregister and make an appointment with the Red Cross by calling: 800.733.2767 and using the sponsor code CH01778.  Flyer online here.
Holiday Drive for Families Affected by Domestic Violence. Each year the Sudbury-Wayland-Lincoln Domestic Violence Roundtable sponsors a family for the holidays, and each year we invite our local communities to become involved in making the holidays brighter for families affected by domestic violence. There are a number of ways that you can help. Sponsoring a family can be a wonderful way for you and your family to do something together to help others. You can also involve extended family, neighbors, and friends. Or perhaps your colleagues at work, your book club, scout troop, civic organization, or club would like to organize a collection. For those who cannot sponsor a family, gift cards to retail stores for food, clothing, and other necessities are welcome. Popular stores include Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, CVS, Target, and Stop and Shop. Wrapping paper, ribbon, and tape are also needed. Whatever you can do to help is deeply appreciated.  For complete details, click here.
The Town of Wayland Wants You to Volunteer!  The town has a variety of volunteer opportunities that call for light, medium, or heavy time commitments and for specific skills or no particular skills at all, only an interest in the board’s work and willingness to learn. We-the Board of Selectmen-are providing you with information that we hope will pique your interest. This column focuses on the new Cable Advisory Committee (CAC).
The CAC has three principal responsibilities: 1) negotiate the terms of the renewal Cable TV licenses with Wayland’s service providers, Comcast and Verizon; 2) recommend that the Board of Selectmen grant these licenses; and 3) monitor the performance of the licensees during the ascertainment process to ensure compliance with the license terms and conditions. We expect that the five member committee will meet monthly or every other month beginning in 2019. Helpful-but not required-skills include negotiating experience, interest in or some knowledge of our local cable operations, ability to understand contracts, and common sense. If you have questions or are interested in being considered to fill this or any town board position, please email Teri Hegerty in the Selectmen’s office. We look forward to hearing from you!

Toys for Tots Collection at Wayland Police Department. This year as in years past, the Wayland Police Department will be accepting new, unwrapped, non-violent toys for US Marine Corp Reserve Toys for Tots program. You can bring donations to the Wayland Police Department (38 Cochituate Rd. Wayland), Silk Veterinary (9 Pelham Island Rd, Wayland, Wayland Town Hall (41 Cochituate Rd, Wayland) and Ace Hardware (70 Andrew Ave. Wayland) by December 11. If you have any questions, please email Detective Sergeant Jamie D. Berger, or call 508-358-1722

Support Project Pajama, November 21-December 12. Are you looking for a great way to get your kids involved in giving back this holiday season?
Please consider supporting two Wayland moms in providing pajamas for underserved children in Lowell, MA.
Their aim is to provide 300 pairs of children’s pajamas to families in need. They hope to provide warmth and comfort to ensure a better night’s sleep that will lead to a more healthy and productive life. Kim and Giselle are collecting brand-new, unwrapped girls and boys pajamas, sizes 6 to16, November 21-December 12. Please place donations of new pajamas in the holiday wrapped boxes outside of their homes. May we all be a bit warmer this season-whether it is because of a new pair of pajamas or because of doing a good deed. Donation Locations:
Kim Bruno: 1 Pheasant Run and Giselle Shardlow: 22 Shaw Drive.

Join Wayland’s Community Emergency Response Team.

The Wayland Community Fund serves Wayland residents who need financial assistance.  The WCF is a volunteer organization that provides assistance to Wayland residents in financial need, paying utility bills, rent, medical expenses and many other items.  It pays bills, it does not provide cash. The organization was originally funded by a bequest from the late Suzanne Leavitt.   Contributions from Wayland residents now provide sufficient funding. The WCF is staffed by five volunteers who cover all expenses.  As a result, 100% of every contribution goes toward helping people in Wayland.  Since its founding 20 years ago the WCF has provided more than $550,000 to Wayland residents in financial need. The Wayland Community Fund can be reached at 508-358-3624.More information on the fund, including who it serves, and how to donate, is available on the Wayland town website  online here.
