This new year share your skills and experience, connect with others and make a difference through SOAR 55

soar55If you are interested in connecting to community, feeling a sense of purpose and accomplishment, meeting new people, and using your skills and experiences in a new way, consider volunteering through SOAR 55. Opportunities include: assist service members, veterans, military retirees and their families with preparing their tax returns; mentor an “at risk” teen to realize his/her full potential in school and life; provide 1:1 employment navigation and support to individuals working to break through poverty and chronic low-income status; expand a historical society’s existing IT infrastructure and develop an IT strategic plan; provide recommendations on strategies that will help a performing arts center raise their profile and performances of their arts and educational activities; work with military and civilian media organizations to promote public understanding of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve mission; help a child improve their reading or math skills, so critical for future success; join a conservation commission that administers and enforces the state and local wetlands protection laws and serves as custodian of over 800 acres of conservation land; help elderly seniors stay connected to community life and age with self respect and wellness by driving them once or twice a week (no more than 6 miles) to events and appointments; work with employers and military service members to prevent, reduce or resolve misunderstandings regarding employment rights and responsibilities, and much more!

SOAR 55 is a program of Newton Community Service Center with a satellite office located at the Framingham Public Library and is part of a national network of volunteer programs that mobilizes adults age 55 and over to contribute their skills and experience to help strengthen and expand the capacity of local nonprofit and public organizations.
