ED MASCARI JAZZ DUO FEATURING REBECCA WELLONS
Wayland Middle School Director of Bands, Rebecca Wellons will team up with her neighbor, Jazz Pianist Ed Mascari, to present a selection of jazz tunes from the American Songbook in live performance in the library’s Raytheon Room on Sunday, January 12, from 3-4 p.m. For more information about the duo, check out edmascari.com/.

MIDDLE SCHOOL MEDITATION BOOK GROUP
Calling teens in grades 6 to 8. Chat…Relax…Eat…Read…Meditate. Sound good? If so, then come to the library on Tuesday, January 28, from 7-8:30 p.m. for a meditation book group led by Dr. Dossie Kahn of Wayland Youth and Family Services. We will be discussing A Handful of Quiet: Happiness in Four Pebbles by Thich Nhat Hanh. Bring a parent sign you in. ZUMBA KIDS JR
On Wednesday, January 29, from 10:30-11 a.m., children ages 2.5 to 4 years old can join us for a rhythm and dance program led by Julia Walderzak of H2K Happy Healthy Kids Fitness Studio in Sudbury.

TERESA AMABILE SPEAKING ON “THE PROGRESS PRINCIPLE: JOY AND CREATIVITY AT WORK”
What makes people happy, motivated, productive and creative at work? Wayland resident Teresa Amabile will address this question at the library on Tuesday, February 4, at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Amabile is the Edsel Bryant Ford Professor of Business Administration in the Entrepreneurial Management Unit at Harvard Business School. She is also a Director of Research at HBS. She is the coauthor of “The Progress Principle: Using Small Wins to Ignite Joy, Engagement, and Creativity at Work,” as well as several other books and dozens of articles. She has presented her research at TEDx, Google, Pixar, Intel and many other organizations. Her talk will discuss discoveries from research that she recently completed with her collaborator and husband, Steven Kramer, Ph.D. Drawing upon the daily diaries of dozens of professionals in seven companies, she will show how everyday events at work can make all the difference for your well-being and performance.

BOOK BUDDIES FOR KIDS IN GRADES 1-3
Children’s Librarian Pam McCuen is starting a new program: a parent/child book group for children in grades 1-3 with a parent or caregiver. The first meeting will be on Wednesday, January 29, from 3-3:30 p.m. Our first book will be Under the Snow by Melissa Stewart. During each meeting we will discuss the book and do a hands-on activity. PARENT/CHILD BOOK GROUP FOR GRADES 4 & 5
Our book group for children in fourth and fifth grade, with a parent, will meet on Wednesday, January 15, at 7 p.m. in the Raytheon Room. This month we will discuss Snow Treasure by Marie McSwigan.

MOTHER-DAUGHTER BOOK CLUB
We have started a Mother/Daughter book club for older girls (grades 7 and up) with their moms. On Tuesday, January 21, at 6:30 p.m. the group will discuss Iqbal by Francesco D’Adamo with Youth Services Librarian Pam McCuen. “EATING A RAINBOW”—HEALTHY EATING FOR KIDS
Amy Christiansen from Land’s Sake Farm will introduce children to the concepts of colorful, balanced, and healthy eating in this interactive nutrition workshop. Children will also make healthy snacks! Wednesday, January 22, from 3-3:30 p.m. For ages 6 and up.

WINTER EXHIBITS
In January the foyer contains acrylic paintings by artist Julia Blake of Wellesley. This month, drop by to see the fabulous photographs by members of the Happy Hollow 2012 & 2013 Photography Club in the Raytheon Room.

NEEDLEWORK/HANDWORK GROUP
Our Needlework/Handwork group, facilitated by Ann Moses, generally meets on the first Wednesday morning of each month from 10–noon. in the Raytheon Room. However, the next meeting will be on Wednesday, February 12, the second Wednesday of the month. This is a group for people to work on needlework and handwork projects together. LIBRARY BOOK GROUPS FOR ADULTS
Both of our two library book groups for adults will meet in January. The next meeting of our evening group will be on Monday, January 13, at 7 p.m. We will be discussing The Blood of Heaven by Kent Wascom. The next meeting of our Noontime Book Group will be on Friday, February 7, at noon and we will be discussing The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy.

FREE LECTURE ON ADD/ADHD
On Tuesday, January 14, at 7 p.m. the Foundation for Wellness Professionals is sponsoring a free lecture on ADD/ADHD and Executive Functioning Skills in the library’s Raytheon Room. For more information, contact Anna Feagan (AHS@wellnessspeakers.org).

WINTER STORY & MOTHER GOOSE TIMES
Our Storytimes will start up again on the week of January 12. We have two parent-child storytimes led by Children’s Librarian Pam McCuen. StoryVine is a story/craft hour for preschoolers ages 2.5 to 5 years most Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Mother Goose Time, for babies and toddlers, is an interactive program filled with songs, rhymes, stories, and movement on most Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Registration is not required for these programs.
