Wayland Town Crier 11/9/14: Developers withdraw off-site affordable housing plan in Wayland. Developers Devens “Dev” Hamlen and Ben Stevens withdrew a request to build affordable housing units, required in connection with the new luxury Covered Bridge housing project on Rice Road, off-site in Cochituate. Speaking at a packed Planning Board meeting Thursday night, Stevens said he and Hamlen agreed that “without the support of the Wayland Housing Authority and the Wayland Housing Partnership, it doesn’t make much sense to put the Planning Board in a position to make a ruling on this.” The option to place required affordable housing units off-site is available to builders under the town’s bylaws if the builder can prove a hardship and if the Planning Board grants approval.
