350 Metrowest Node presents meeting on Wind Power, Thursday, February 5

350MetroWestWind power is an important alternative to fossil fuels in creating electricity. Learn more about wind power in Massachusetts at the February public meeting of the 350 Massachusetts MetroWest Node on Thursday, Feb. 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, located at 107 Concord Road (Rte. 126) in Wayland. Craig Altemose of the Better Future Project will update us on local efforts to keep the Cape Wind project alive.

Cape Wind is an off-shore project in development. Recently two electricity distribution companies made local news when they withdrew from their commitment to buy Cape Wind electricity. Other off-shore wind farms are being considered. Also there are a few operating land-based wind farms around New England.

Increasing numbers of local citizens are learning about the larger energy picture and how different energy sources accelerate climate change. Activists say the largest energy companies “extract” energy from the earth and are focused on exploiting existing fossil fuel reserves and infrastructure. Sustainable energy companies utilize renewable sources and are an alternative to extraction.

The 350 movement of local citizen groups around the world want to bend the curve toward sustainable energy sources and infrastructure.
Interested citizens of all ages are invited to our local monthly public meetings, which provide basic information on climate change and how energy production impacts the changes.

Our February meeting will also review local efforts to divest from fossil fuel stocks, provide accurate information on local gas pipelines, and new state legislation to price carbon emissions.
