At SOAR 55, we place, train, and support volunteers, age 55 and over, who want to use their skills and experience to strengthen local non-profits and public organizations in Newton and Metro West.
With over 90 local nonprofit and public partners, SOAR 55 is able to provide interested individuals with easy access to a myriad of volunteer positions. In addition, our staff uses a personalized, professional and unique approach to finding you the right volunteer experience by facilitating connections based on your interests, skills, experience, and schedule.
Some of our opportunities include: teach the fundamentals of small business to inmates; train to help a young child improve their reading or math skills; act as ambassador for an art museum/school ; train this fall to provide community mediation offering an alternative to litigation; promote and prolong independent living for low-income elders and disabled individuals by assisting them with their financial needs; execute a media outreach campaign for a teen mentoring program; train to provide emotional and social support to caregivers; research and write grants to support program development for an early childhood organization; help an incarcerated woman get a “step up” in life by providing academic support through Boston University’s “College behind Bars” program; act as a family friend mentor and help a newly arrived refugee/immigrant family adapt to a new life in the United States; assist students (elementary, middle school and high school) with homework assignments in at least one subject area, including mathematics, language arts, science, social studies, Spanish, and French; as a Veteran (regardless of status) facilitate a discussion peer support program for incarcerated veterans, and much more!
