The following was posted on the Wayland Police Department Facebook page:
At 11:39 A.M. on October 7th, 2016, Wayland Police and Fire responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on Route 27 (Main Street) near the intersection of School Street. Officers determined that a vehicle, traveling southbound struck a pedestrian in the roadway.
The pedestrian was identified as a 35 year old woman from Wayland. She sustained serious injuries that did not appear to be life threatening. She was treated by the Wayland Fire Department ambulance personnel. She was transported to the Cochituate Ballfield where she was transferred to a MedFlight helicopter that brought her to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.
The accident is still under investigation. The operator of the vehicle was identified as a 73 year old female from Maynard. The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk.
Main Street was closed at School Street for approximately forty minutes. The accident is Being investigated by Wayland Police’s Accident Reconstructionist, Officer Mark Wilkins. No determination as to the cause of the accident has been made at this time.
The name of the victim and the driver of the vehicle are being withheld, pending notification to family members.
